A vacuum and a wipe-down take twenty minutes. A proper interior detail takes a few hours. The difference is that a detail treats each surface on its own terms, with the chemistry and tools that surface needs, instead of running one cleaner over everything.

We work from the top of the cabin down, so that is the order here.

Clear it out and dry vacuum first

Mats come out. Loose items get set aside. Then the whole cabin gets a dry vacuum, including under the seats, between the seat and console, the seat tracks, and the door pockets. This comes first because grit and crumbs turn into mud the moment anything wet touches them.

Compressed air and soft brushes help here, pushing debris out of seams and vents so the vacuum can pick it up.

Headliner: gentle, always

The headliner is fabric glued to a backing board, and too much moisture can soften the glue and make it sag. So it gets cleaned with a light hand: a mild cleaner on a towel, worked gently, never soaked. Small spots usually come out. Large water stains in the headliner are often a sign of a leak, and that is worth knowing before anyone cleans them.

Dashboard, console, and door panels

Plastic and vinyl get cleaned with a mild interior cleaner and soft brushes, which reach the textured grain where grime sits. Vents, buttons, and seams get detail brushes. Screens and gloss black trim get a separate soft towel and a screen-safe cleaner, because those scratch easily. The finish is a non-greasy protectant with UV protection, not a glossy dressing that throws glare on the windshield.

Fabric seats and carpet

This is where most of the time goes. Stains get pre-treated with a cleaner matched to what they are, since a coffee stain, an ink mark, and a grease spot want different chemistry. Then hot water extraction: a machine sprays hot water and cleaner deep into the fibers and pulls it back out, along with the dirt. That reaches what a surface scrub cannot.

Extraction is followed by drying time, with doors open and air moving. Seats and carpet should be dry to the touch within hours, not days. If they stay damp, mold can start, so good extraction removes as much water as it puts in.

Leather

Most car leather has a protective topcoat, so cleaning is what matters most. A pH-balanced leather cleaner and a soft brush lift oils and dirt out of the grain, especially in the creases and on the driver's bolster. Perforated seats get a light touch so cleaner does not get pushed into the holes. Then a conditioner or protectant suited to coated leather goes on.

Glass, jambs, and the small things

  • Inside glass, cleaned until there is no film. The inside of the windshield is often the dirtiest glass in the car.
  • Door jambs, the painted frame you step over, which a wash never reaches.
  • Seat belts, cleaned along their length and left to dry fully before they retract.
  • Cup holders, the steering wheel, and the shifter, which collect the most hand oil.
  • The trunk or cargo area, vacuumed and wiped.
  • Mats cleaned on their own: rubber mats scrubbed, carpet mats extracted.
A detail is not one cleaner on every surface. It is the right cleaner on each one.

What a detail cannot fix

Detailing is cleaning, not repair. It will not close a tear in leather, fill a cigarette burn, or bring back a dashboard that has already cracked. Some stains set permanently, especially old ones that were baked in by heat or ones where the dye in the fabric itself has changed. And odors like heavy smoke need their own treatment beyond a standard interior detail.

A good detailer tells you which of your stains will come out and which will only lighten before starting, not after.

How long it takes

A car in decent shape usually takes a few hours for the interior alone. Pet hair, heavy staining, or a third row add time. Sand, especially from the beach or a jobsite, adds a lot. We give a time window with the quote so you can plan around it.

If you want a number, send a couple of photos of the seats and carpet and tell us what is bothering you most. You will know which stains are coming out before we start, not after.
